Little Room

I made this zine in 2019 (photographs are from 2016). I made a few special edition copies with collages.

"That’s where i went
into my little room
close the door behind
and think about last year – or next year,
you know

was everywhere except for where i was,
sitting in that little room
– picking skin
loud neighbours talking,
their home phone going
and Mani George – standing outside the door, again

i’d walk around at night, though
talking to myself
counting the TVs discarded all over
noticing all that garbage – the buggy mattresses
and looking into the eyes of limping strangers
who are talking to themselves, too

I wouldn’t walk by yours – even though I sometimes would
and one time i saw your light on
i remember those wooden doors – your turquoise circle drawings all taped up
and, looking round at this little city square
– circling back to athena
i remembered how, from your balcony view,
i thought it was something sorta special

how warm i felt by such banal things!

and despite my walking round again on the streets that are the same as last year,
or the year before
it all feels different somehow
like sex with a friend you never sexed with
i guess i don’t care for athena anymore, i don’t think

anyway,
it was as if i was sick or something
and I think I was
And now i can’t help but wonder,
what’ll become of that little room?"
